Starting From a Blank Page

No old site to work around means no baggage

A new business, a side hustle that has grown up or an established firm that never got around to it. Each of these starts the same way with me, a conversation about what you sell and who buys it.

Having no website is not a problem. There are no old pages to redirect, no messy plugins to untangle and no awkward design to work around. I can plan the structure properly from the start, which makes everything that follows simpler and quicker.

If you already have a Facebook page with photos and reviews, that is a great head start. The Facebook to website page explains how I bring that across.

How a New Website Comes Together

Four stages, with you seeing progress along the way

Most new websites take a few weeks from go to launch. The biggest factor is usually how quickly words and photos come together.

1

A chat and a plan

You and I talk by phone or video call about your business, customers and the areas you serve. I then send a plan listing the pages and a fixed quote.

2

Words and design

I draft the page wording with you and design the homepage first. Once you are happy with the look, the rest of the pages follow the same style.

3

Build and test

I build the site in WordPress, connect forms, maps and analytics, then test it on phones, tablets and desktops.

4

Launch and handover

The site goes live on your domain, gets submitted to Google and you get a walk through on making your own changes.

What I Need From You

Less than most people expect

Your logo

Any format is fine to start. If you don’t have one, I can point you to a local designer.

Some photos

Real photos of your work, team or premises beat stock images every time. Phone photos are often good enough.

Your services

A rough list of what you do and the towns you cover. I turn that into proper page content.

Quick feedback

A reply within a few days when I send something to look at keeps the project moving.

The Development Side Explained

What happens under the bonnet

Web development is the technical half of a website. It covers how the site is built, how quickly it loads and how well it holds up over time. Customers never see this part, but they feel it when a page loads slowly or a form doesn’t send.

I build on WordPress with the Elementor page builder and keep the plugin list short. Fewer plugins means fewer updates, fewer conflicts and fewer gaps for hackers. Images are resized and compressed, caching is switched on and the site is set up with an SSL certificate so it shows the padlock in the browser.

After launch the site is covered by a free first year of WordPress maintenance, so the updates and backups are already looked after while you get used to it.

Who does web development for new businesses in Launceston?

Website Design Launceston, run by Nick Fritzkowski, builds new WordPress websites for start ups and established businesses in Launceston and across Tasmania. Nick handles the planning, design, development and launch himself and has been building websites since 1995. New sites start from $880 including GST.

Before getting a website built in Launceston, gather your logo, a handful of real photos and a rough list of your services and service areas. That is enough to get started. I help turn your notes into page wording, so you don’t need to write polished copy yourself.

A new Launceston business can still get a website before the logo is final, though it helps to have the logo sorted first because the colours flow from it. If you need branding, I can suggest a designer. Otherwise I can launch a simple single page website and update the look once the logo arrives.

A Tasmanian business does not need to register its domain name before the website is built, although it is worth checking the name is available early. I can help you choose and register a .com.au domain in your business name. Domain and hosting costs are separate from the website price.

WordPress is a good choice for a brand new Tasmanian small business website because it is flexible, widely supported and easy to edit once it is set up. Your site isn’t locked to one company. The WordPress websites page covers why I build with it and how editing works.

A new Launceston website gets onto Google once it is submitted through Google Search Console, which I do at launch along with a sitemap. Showing up for competitive searches takes longer and depends on content and local signals. Many owners pair the launch with a Google Business Profile and local SEO.
